Place Waste Dissent live at #sanctumbristol

Andrew Neil Hayes filmed me reading from Place Waste Dissent at #Sanctumbristol on Friday November 6th. Sanctum hosts a continuous programme of sound over 552 hours, sustained by performers, musicians and bands in a temporary structure within the shell of Temple Church, Bristol. Sanctum is Theaster Gates’ first public project in the UK, produced by Situations, as part of Bristol 2015 European Green Capital. Big thanks to Sanctum and Andrew Neil Hayes.

Place Waste Dissent is available from Influx Press price £9.99 + p&p worldwide here

Place Waste Dissent at #sanctumbristol

I’m reading the whole of my new avant-garde experimental text & collage book Place Waste Dissent over four performances at Sanctum, a project by Theaster Gates and Situations. Sanctum will host a continuous programme of sound over 552 hours, sustained by performers, musicians and bands, spoken word artists and the visiting casts of theatre productions in Bristol. More info on visiting and artists performing here.

IMG_0482 IMG_0485 IMG_0486Sanctum is American artist Theaster Gates’ first major public project in the UK. Renowned for his socially-engaged practice, Gates’ artistic methodology is built on the principle of reactivation and collaboration. For the first time in 75 years, a new congregation will gather, within a chamber created from reclaimed materials.

“The work is asking questions about how materials accumulate, how a place accumulates; how time is actually something that is not as linear as we imagine…”

Place Waste Dissent is out via Influx Press on Nov 12th. Pre-order here.
